Ice Cream on a Diet

Eat ice cream even while you’re on your weight-reducing regime, and still lose weight as well as stay healthy! This is the overweight person’s dream. Of course, we are not suggesting that you eat ice cream by the bucketful, or in place of other nutritious food, but the results of eating a sensible daily portion a day in our hot summer months may surprise you.

The main health benefit of eating ice cream is that it provides calcium which as is common knowledge is essential to good bodily health. But what is less well known is that, according to research, if your body is deficient in calcium, fat cells are triggered to store even more fat. Before you dive for the fridge, we are not saying that for every kg of ice cream you consume, your fat cells will reject a further kg of fat! The key is to have moderate amount to help maintain optimum fat loss.

Tests have also shown that people obtaining their calcium from natural calcium, such as found in real dairy products like milk, ice cream, yoghurt or cheese, lost more weight than those taking calcium supplements.

Calcium is known to be essential in children’s diets to grow and maintain strong bones and teeth. It is also important for adults, not only to maintain healthy strong bones, and thus help to prevent the loss of bone density, and subsequent fractures in the middle aged and elderly, but it is also known to assist in the lowering of blood pressure.

A further benefit of calcium is that it is claimed to help fight colon cancer, and while cutting the risk of strokes, a sufficient calcium intake also helps to prevent the formation of kidney stones. A good diet with adequate calcium also boosts immunity.

Because eating a moderate sized helping of one of the delicious flavours of Cortina Ice Cream makes you feel good, it will help prevent the cravings for something indulgent which we often get when we’re dieting. If you know you can have a treat, the chances of your getting up in the middle of the night and bingeing with whatever is at hand, are greatly reduced.

Of course, as with anything, try not to overindulge. But a sensible sized portion of a good quality dairy ice cream, perhaps with added fruit, should satisfy any need for a luxurious, decadent treat, and prevent you feeling that you are being deprived.

It is important to eat a balanced diet to ensure you remain in good health, and be able to maintain your weight loss. However, providing the rest of your diet is sensible, a small dish or cone of ice cream will make you feel like you’re having a treat, and reinforce your will-power to remain on your diet and do good to your body and general health as well.
